Computational Thinking aims to prepare Foundation Year students for degree-level work in Computer Science. The module focuses on key skills expected of students when they enter the degree-level programme. Computational Thinking focuses on how to solve problems via program development. The module initially builds students’ understanding of logic, before teaching students how to develop algorithms. The latter half of the module focuses on programming using a Visual Programming Language (VPL) such as Android App Inventor or Google’s Blockly. The module ends with a discussion on the limits of computation, including data representation and physical limitations.

An underlying feature of the successful organization is its ability to adapt to change. Change can be driven by a number of different forces, including customers, markets and technology. Yet research shows that most change initiatives fail to accomplish their intended outcomes and may even limit the potential of an organization and its people. The consequences of not managing change effectively can be devastating and long lasting, so it's important that managers ensure they have the skills, knowledge and credibility within their organization to be champions of change. Managers have a clear role and responsibility to ensure that issues like employee voice, individual and cultural differences as well as skills development are appropriately and effectively addressed as part of change management.

This module provides students with a key set of strategy and business improvement tools. The module is aimed at providing you with a thorough understanding of the practical application of these tools. Many of the classic business tools such as PESTLE and Boston Box are included. Additionally, key tools related to business improvement such as benchmarking and the Balanced Scorecard are evaluated. Throughout the course, we shall critically evaluate the different tools to ensure that students are aware of their relative strengths and weaknesses. These include Value Chain, VRIO, CAGE, Yip's drivers for internationalisation, TOWS, SAFe and many more. We also examine the changing environment for businesses and consider the role of Ecosystems, and also Alliances as a form of growth strategy.

This module will equip you with the knowledge and critical techniques in order to conduct research in business and management. We will address the different kinds of research, especially scholarly, academic output and applied consultancy output, whilst the module's practical emphasis is upon facilitating research methods for empirical research in the programme's capstone project.
You will learn about the different approaches that can be taken to undertake research and how research methods are underpinned by different philosophical perspectives. Through the taught classes you will critically evaluate the different factors that impact upon research design, the quality of empirical fieldwork and the final research's dissemination, and explore different approaches to using academic literature. You will explore the implications of your research design on constructing your research tools and planning your data analysis or consultancy intervention. We will also outline the importance of research ethics for any human interaction involved in your research. This module is essential in supporting you to begin your capstone project (dissertation or consultancy project) and the content should be revisited once you begin your capstone project.

The digital age is moving forward at a fast pace that digital technologies are fundamentally transforming the way businesses operate. This module provides you with an introduction to the role of emerging digital technologies (such as big data analytics, artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, and blockchain) and analytics tools, techniques, and processes in global logistics and supply chain management. You will gain an in-depth understanding of topics such as supply chain analytics, data analytics and transport planning, e-procurement, and lean and agile supply chains in the era of Industry 4.0. You will be equipped with in-depth practical knowledge of analytical tools and techniques that you will use in the career in logistics and supply chain management. You will also be able to provide innovative practical solutions for modern logistics and supply chain challenges with a global perspective.

Leadership is a core management skill and within healthcare systems and social care there are specific challenges: problems of complexity, rapidly changing delivery patterns as well as severe resource constraints. Despite the enormity of the challenges, there are considerable opportunities for management: the benefits of the fourth industrial revolution has created a myriad of high growth and high impact solutions for managers that require strong leadership if the benefits are to be maximised. Opportunities arising out of the use of artificial intelligence, big data as well as new forms of patient management through personalised healthcare and remote management of patients have already brought tremendous gains where they have been successfully implemented. However for management, the difficulties cannot be under-estimated.

The purpose of this module is to introduce the student to key ideas of leadership as well to relate them specifically to healthcare systems. Students are introduced to key ideas of modern leadership theory as well as practical tools that are capable of being used in a wide variety of contexts.

Leadership is about achieving organisational success through collaboration and management of organisational resources. Leadership is also about personal development in terms of being the best type of leader: we shall also explore different types of leaders.

Healthcare managers have a clear role and responsibility to ensure that issues like employee voice, individual and cultural differences as well as skills development are appropriately and effectively managed. This module provides a strong basis for healthcare managers to embrace the opportunities and challenges of healthcare management.

This module will enable students to gain knowledge and understanding of methodologies in problem solving and researching that will support the student in their current studies and in their future careers as managers. The module is designed to provide a strong framework that will enable the student to develop problem solving capabilities and to also develop a research proposal for the Applied Research or Consultancy Project. The orientation of the module is towards building confidence in the students to face the uncertainties of modern business life by providing a means of managing problems: analysing and critiquing problems, using critical thinking, researching and presenting recommendations to an executive audience.

The student will gain a familiarity with the breadth and depth of available research methodologies. They will achieve an understanding of the challenges of research in practice: accumulating high quality information that can be fed into decision-making for managers. Methods for developing a research design will be considered, techniques for critiquing the quality and suitability of research will be examined. Ethical considerations connected with researching will also be included in the module.

The aim of this module is to develop highly employable postgraduates capable of professional practice roles either as external or internal consultants. This is achieved by applying marketing expertise as a 'change agent '. This requires highly developed client facing and intra team interpersonal skills and the self-awareness to become a self-managing professional practitioner. A key element of professional development is a client consultancy project.
The module introduces students to models of consultancy practice and key stages in the consultancy cycle. This is also underpinned by sessions on client engagement, communication and presentation skills; data gathering and analysis; project management and team management, The module is underpinned by key theoretical principles of: Action Learning, Group Dynamics, Authentic Human Consulting and Personal Reflection.

This module aims to equip students with:
1. Enhanced core skills in English and Academic Skills, to a level that would be required in order to engage successfully with the level 4 modules on a degree programme;
2. A basic understanding of use of English for Academic Purposes (terminology, concepts, ideas, etc.) in order to engage successfully with the level 4 modules on a degree programme;
3. Confidence in their own abilities to use Reading, Writing and Spoken English effectively for academic purposes and to carry out further study;
4. Transferable and lifelong learning skills, to support continuing professional development and educational achievement.

This module is essential to address the needs of students aiming to enter an UG degree programme as defined in the points above, including having the necessary knowledge and academic English skills to successfully progress onto level 4.

In order to provide international foundation students with wider access and knowledge of future career choices in relation to careers and employability, talks will be arranged across all subject choices. Therefore, talks will be provided by the careers department to ensure that foundation students are aware of the job opportunities related to their degree, as well as becoming familiar with the careers’ services at Roehampton university. Presentations will also be organized by the Head of Foundation in liaison with the careers department for foundation students that exit the CertHE, so students are aware of employability options available to them post CertHE.

Consumer psychology is an important aspect of marketing, as markets are becoming increasingly niche and complex. This course will introduce you to perspectives of psychology as related to consumer behaviour in digital environments. You will build upon theoretical insights gained to critically evaluate current aspects of consumer culture and behaviour in the digital environment. You can then use these concepts to further develop your effectiveness in digital marketing management. You will develop insight into customer behaviour online and better understand customer attitudes and motivations alongside decision-making processes. This will allow you to design more effective digital marketing strategies and campaigns alongside enriched customer experiences.

Students will need to demonstrate the ability to utilise the academic and subject-specific toolkit acquired through previous modules to manage their own learning, and in partnership with your tutors, negotiate, plan and carry out an investigation into the chosen topic. The module requires students to evidence readiness for entry into Level 4 of the degree programme through the e-portfolio which will contain a log of seminar activities.

In a global, fast pace world that is rapidly changing, systematic strategic contexts analysis, data-driven decision-making and systematic business development are crucial for companies and professionals to succeed. The module will demonstrate how sustainability practices and concepts influence international business policy, stakeholder relationships and strategy design & process. It will provide you with a number of essential frameworks all suited to guide you as a future manager when analysing the main factors relevant to the strategy-making process, and with reference to real world case studies and leading corporations' insight. Students will learn some technical skills, accompanied with reading and interpretation of images and media practices. You are asked to use digital technology to question notions the authenticity of the image in contemporary society. Overtly manipulated images prompt us to flights of fantasy, to imagine utopias and play with psychologies. With the ever-increasing public accessibility to image manipulation software, apps and filters, the authenticity of the image has never been more in question. Students develop skills in practical application of ideas, process and themes within media practice and learn the ways in which images are constructed and manipulated. This module proposes that it is not the camera that makes the image, the camera operator and often the subject does. The image creator makes a series of conscious and unconscious decisions which relate to our preconceived ideas of what the image’s meaning is. Further, when importing and ‘improving’ the image in software such as Photoshop, students have an opportunity to manipulate the image, changing it significantly from the original.

The module aims to introduce key concepts in human physiology that are common cornerstones of the different degree programmes. Students will learn about all aspects of human physiology from the cellular level to human evolution. Problem-based learning and face-to-face approaches will facilitate deep, experiential learning. Students are expected to combine their knowledge gained from the ‘Introduction to Scientific Thinking’ module with the knowledge of physiological function they will gain here in order to critically assess current research on human physiology as reflected in news reports, recent academic publications and historical case studies.

This module introduces many aspects of applied psychology alongside key theories and models. It includes introductory sessions to health psychology, wellbeing, positive psychology, key aspects of learning from a psychological perspective, aspects of the self and self-regulation. This module also includes psychological research, data in psychology, analysing data using a statistical package and what careers are available in psychology. This module is essential to address the needs of students aiming to enter a Psychology undergraduate degree programme as defined, to ensure that students have the necessary knowledge and skills to successfully progress onto level 4. Students complete the Introduction to Psychology module in the Spring term, which is followed the Scientific Thinking in Psychology in the autumn term.

The proposed module will equip students with: 1. An appreciation of the distinctive character of sociology as a discipline; 2. An understanding of the subject matter of Sociology; 3. An introduction to how sociologists go about conducting their research; 4. An understanding of the vocabulary of the subject (e.g. concepts); 5. An awareness of the subjects and topics that are available to study on the Sociology and Criminology degree programme (which will include introductory discussions of legal and criminological concepts). This module is essential to address the needs of students aiming to enter a Sociology and Criminology degree programme. As much as is possible, topics will be drawn from current affairs to highlight how sociology is a subject that responds to what is going on in the world around us and how it often challenges our own assumptions on various issues. This module provides you, as an international student, with a core set of English skills to become proficient in academic reading, writing, speaking and listening whilst integrating successfully into London as a city, full of unique experiences with exciting social and cultural diversity.

Running through the academic year (for 3 terms), you will be able to establish your individual proficiency in reading, writing, speaking and listening and foster your learning within social, cultural and academic contexts. You will develop your understanding of London, its monuments, cultural institutions and city regions and improve your confidence in English language.

Each week in Term 1, you will both experience architecture, sculpture, painting and contemporary fashion, business and creative regions, and receive an introduction to academic texts, academic language and referencing relevant to UK higher education. In Term 2 & 3, you will develop your understanding of the character of the city, whilst you further develop the skills and experience to actively take part in workshops, visits, lectures, seminars, group work and academic writing, practising those abilities you will most benefit from for your future study. Through the programme, you will visit London's museums, commerce and lifestyle sites alongside less well-known sites, off the 'tourist trail'.

Exploring contemporary debates on urban living, you will see London with your own eyes, using your own cultural understanding and lived experience. You will understand how business and culture drive creative and academic knowledge. This module will develop your critical thinking, analytical skills, and practical confidence to explore.

During the module, you will develop your critical thinking skills through tasks such as text analysis and in-session group discussion tasks, and the ability to construct coherent academic assignments, including written essays and presentation work. You will become familiar with referencing methods, academic integrity, tone and register. You will be guided in assignment organisation, structure, style and content.

Therefore, in taking the module, you will explore the fundamental concepts of business environments, legal structures, and organisational dynamics, focusing on small and large businesses. Through interactive workshops, role-play activities, and case studies, it is expected that you will develop practical skills in business planning, stakeholder analysis, and strategic thinking.
Furthermore, with the introduction of key principles of sustainability, social responsibility, and inclusive business practices in a globalised economy, it is expected that you will develop an understanding of contemporary issues affecting businesses at both local and global levels. The transferable skills you will develop in taking this module will enable you to critically evaluate new business ventures, create mission and vision statements, and engage in collaborative activities to develop essential teamwork and communication skills.
